Community
Honors students become part of a community of high-achieving peers in honors courses, honors meetings, and honors cultural events. At the meetings, seniors in the program lead discussions on topics they feel passionate about. As one graduating honors student wrote: "I really enjoyed learning from other like-minded and motivated students."
Cultural Events
Honors students are given the opportunity to attend a wide variety of cultural events in Pittsburgh each semester. These events may include plays at the Pittsburgh Public Theater and other Pittsburgh theater companies, concerts at the Pittsburgh Symphony, or tours of the Carnegie or Westmoreland art museums. There is also a cultural field trip every August just before the fall semester begins. This year, we took the Best of the Burgh walking tour of downtown Pittsburgh.
Travel Funding
The Honors Program can subsidize part of the costs for students taking advantage of study abroad opportunities. Over the past ten years, the Honors program has helped defray costs for students going to Portugal, India, Amsterdam, Toronto, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Arizona, and South Dakota. Subsidies are also available for students presenting their research at professional conferences.
Registration Benefits
Campus Honors students are able to register before other students! This gives Honors students the ability to pick their classes and schedules without fear of sections closing or other conflicts.
